ENG Vs IND: Sai Sudharsan To Be Dropped? Gautam Gambhir Likely To Bring An All-Rounder In His Place

The Indian squad is anticipated to ring in some major changes before the second Test against England, with reports suggesting that debutant Sai Sudharsan would be relieved from the playing XI. Even though he made his Test debut in the first game, Sudharsan might be benched in a move to bolster the team’s all-round potential.

Sai Sudharsan Likely To Be Out Of 2nd Test

According to a report by The Indian Express, team management is inclined towards recalling spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar, a favorite of head coach Gautam Gambhir, to enhance balance rather than a judgment on Sudharsan’s performance. Even though the young left-handed batter failed to make an impressive debut, the resultant decision to axe him after only one game has left many perplexed.

Karun Nair Likely To Retain His Spot

There were whispers of a potential shoulder injury for Sudharsan, but the Gujarat Titans batter was observed practicing in the nets prior to the game, eliminating any health issues. If the squad changes are made as anticipated, Karun Nair called back into the team recently may find a place at No. 3, with skipper Shubman Gill retaining the No. 4 spot.

Nitish Reddy And Akashdeep IN?

Apart from this possible batting shuffle, two further changes are said to be in the pipeline: Nitish Reddy could replace Shardul Thakur, and Akash Deep could step in for Jasprit Bumrah, who could be rested. But left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav is likely to remain warming the bench even in the spin-friendly conditions.

Shubman Gill Might Bring In 2nd Spinner

“If fast bowlers are not creating enough chances, then we feel that maybe a second spinner on these kinds of wickets will at least create a run until the second new ball comes,” India captain Shubman Gill had said in the press conference on Tuesday. “Looking at the last match, if a similar wicket is going to be here like it was in the last match, then a second spinner won’t be a bad option.”

India’s Winless Record In Birmingham

The probable reshuffles reflect that India is eager to play a more balanced team for the pivotal second Test. India has never won a Test match at Edgbaston, Birmingham and Shubman Gill & co. will be looking forward to break the losing streak and win after 57-years.
