Ravi Agarwal Reappointed As CBDT Chairman For One Year Starting July 1

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Saturday informed that the reappointment of Ravi Agarwal as the Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has been approved.

CBDT is the main policy body of the Income Tax Department. This reappointment has been done for one year under the contract, the period of which will be valid from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 202,6 or till further orders, whichever is earlier. The government notification also mentioned that his service conditions will be as per the general rules prescribed for reappointed officers in the Central Government.

Ravi Agarwal is a 1988 batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer from the cadre of the Income Tax Department. He has been working as an administrative member in the CBDT since July 2023.

He took over as the Chairman of CBDT in June 2024, replacing Nitin Gupta, a 1986 batch Income Tax Service officer.
