As the annual Amarnath Yatra approaches, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, VK Birdi, informed that extensive security measures have been finalized to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the pilgrimage, set to commence next week. Speaking to reporters at the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam, IGP Birdi underscored the critical role of local residents in facilitating a successful pilgrimage experience.

This year, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, in collaboration with various security agencies, has devised a robust, multi-layered security plan that is more comprehensive than previous years. “We have implemented in-depth security arrangements to ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage for all devotees,” Birdi said.

The IGP detailed that security protocols have been meticulously structured across different sections and sectors along the Yatra route and throughout the valley. To enhance preparedness, security forces are currently conducting Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) drills across all areas involved in the Yatra, including camps, road sections, and interior sectors. “These drills are essential for refining our operations and ensuring prompt responses during any contingencies,” he said.

Birdi also expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic support from local communities, which he deemed indispensable for the success of the pilgrimage. “No pilgrimage can occur without the backing of local residents. Their cooperation is vital,” he emphasized. The local population has shown eagerness to welcome devotees and provide necessary services to ensure a fulfilling pilgrimage experience.
