The former great Indian cricketer and the all-time great batter Sachin Tendulkar gave his condolences to the death of former India left-arm spinner Dilip Doshi, who died Monday in London at the age of 77.

Sachin Tendulkar’s Tweet

Tendulkar posted on X handle, “I met Dilipbhai for the first time in the UK in 1990, and he bowled to me in the nets on that tour. He was really fond of me, and I reciprocated his feelings. A warm-hearted soul like Dilipbhai will be deeply missed. I will miss those cricketing conversations which we invariably had. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti.”

Dilip Doshi’s Records

Doshi has played 33 Tests and 15 One Day Internationals representing India, between 1979 and 1983 taking 114 wickets in Tests and 22 in ODIs. He played a spectacular debut in Tests in the 1979 tour to India by Australia which took place in Chennai and his performance in the first test ended with 6/103 and match-takes with 8/167. He is one of the few Indian cricketers having taken a five wicket haul in their Test debut innings, with only eight Indian players able to take a five wicket haul on the debut.

Besides playing on the international scene, Doshi achieved a fine domestic career, playing both Saurashtra and Bengal at Ranji Trophy matches. He also left his imprint in county cricket in England playing in Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire. Through the remarkable first-rate career, he achieved the 898 wickets in total.
