‘This Is Another…’ Travis Head Plots Australia’s Redemption After WTC Final Loss

Travis Head has encouraged his team Australia to forget the tearful loss at the WTC 2025 final to South Africa. However as the team tries to get past a new WTC cycle, Head wants the team looking forward instead of looking back. The 2010 champions Australia had to take defeats from Temba Bavuma and co. at Lords. South Africa completed a compelling pursuit of 282 to clinch their first ICC WTC tournament by 6 wickets. That was the final game of Australia during the 2023-2025 cycle.

Travis Head’s Statement

“We didn’t play well (against South Africa) and it’s unfortunate. We put two years of hard work into one week and didn’t quite go to plan and the opposition played really well, so there’s another motivation. We’ve got two more years to build, and this is another first look at it so I think if you dwell on it for too long or if you look back you forget about what’s moving forward,” Head said.

“As hard as that is, we play so much cricket and are so used to that but of course we care and of course it’s not ideal but at the end of the day you can’t change it so you have to move on you have to get back on the horse and you have to play good cricket. I think a lot of guys are wanting to do that we’ve had a little bit of time to reflect and I’ve got time to prep and we’re going to another Test series that we’re hopeful to play well in,” he added.

What Happened In The WTC Final 2023-2025 Cycle

South Africa miraculously beat Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final in its first-ever ICC victory win in 27 years with a nail-biting seven wickets at Lord s. The high-intensity four-days game had a back and forth momentum. Nine wickets by Kagiso Rabada and a century run by Aiden Markram on the second innings were some vital contributions, and Temba Bavuma gallantly batted through the chase even after he got hurt. Australia had gained a lead of 74 runs in their 1st innings though Mitchell Starc and Alex Carey had put up some resistance, but some tight batting in 3rd and 4th Day helped South Africa run down 282. The Proteas became a WTC champion after the historic victory.
