The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) announced on Friday that older vehicles will no longer receive fuel in Delhi as of July 1. The SNPR cameras will be located at all 520 petrol pumps across the city to enforce this rule. The ANPR cameras will work with a central database to identify non-compliant vehicles.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT), on April 7, 2015, ordered that diesel vehicles over 10 years old and petrol vehicles over 15 years old shall not be used in the National Capital Region (NCR). The Supreme Court confirmed this on October 29, 2018, upholding the ban on these vehicles operating in the NCR.

The CAQM also explained that the scheme will be implemented in five districts that come under the National Capital Region (NCR) such as Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar and then Sonipat which will come into effect from November 1. The entire NCR is expected to be included in this restriction from April 1, 2026. The old vehicles would not only be refused fuel but they would be taken away and scrapped.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) ordered on April 7, 2015 that diesel vehicles which are over 10 years old, and petrol vehicles over 15 years old should not be allowed to operate in the National Capital Region (NCR). The Supreme Court upheld the order on October 29, 2018, and reaffirmed the restriction on diesel vehicles and petrol vehicles operating in the NCR. The Traffic Police and Transport Department will work jointly to enforce the order and tackle pollution from old vehicles.
