After two decades, Tamil cinema’s much-loved pair Suriya and Trisha Krishnan are reuniting on screen for RJ Balaji’s upcoming film, officially titled Karuppu. Previously referred to as Suriya 45, the makers unveiled the title and first-look poster on the occasion of the filmmaker’s birthday.
Taking to X (formerly called Twitter), Dream Warrior Pictures shared the title and poster. They wrote, “With pride and Excitement, we present the title of #Suriya45: ‘KARUPPU’. A name that embodies the soul of our story, shaped by heart, spirit, and purpose. #கருப்பு #KaruppuWishing a very Happy Birthday to our director @RJ_Balaji.”
The official poster features Suriya in a mysterious backdrop, wielding a weapon, suggesting an intense and action-driven narrative. Alongside the reveal, the makers shared a caption that described the title, Karuppu.

This highly anticipated project brings together an amazing cast. Apart from Suriya and Trisha in lead roles, the film also features Sshivada, Swasika, Yogi Babu, Indrans, and Natty Subramanium.
The film is written by RJ Balaji, who also directs the project, with Rathna Kumar serving as the co-writer. Notably, Sai Abhaynkkar has been brought on board as the music composer, replacing A.R. Rahman, who was earlier in talks for the film’s soundtrack.
Karuppu also marks a crucial addition to Suriya’s upcoming slate of films. Despite the recent underperformance of Retro and Kanguva at the box office, the actor remains a major force in Tamil cinema. Karuppu is seen as a potential comeback vehicle, especially with a storyline that seems rooted in action, emotion, and strong character arcs.
Suriya isn’t slowing down either. He has already begun working on another project with director Venky Atluri, where he will be seen alongside Mamita Baiju.
