‘Not Depression, But Poor Eating Habits’: Rahul Dev Shares Truth Behind Mukul Dev’s Demise

The death of the actor Mukul Dev resulted in a shock to the entertainment world. Lots of individuals began to speculate on the reason for his death, and some even claimed that he was depressed. However, his brother and actor Rahul Dev came up to tell the truth.

Rahul, in an interview with The Times of India, has revealed that Mukul was killed because of unhealthy eating and not depression. “He was in the ICU for eight and a half days. Medically, it was a result of poor eating habits. In the last four-five days, he had stopped eating altogether. Of course, he felt lonely, and he had lost interest in life… He would turn down several work offers… Only now, after completing all the rituals, is the reality sinking in — and I know the pain will only deepen,” Rahul said.

Rahul also talked about how Mukul moved to Delhi in 2019 to look after their father who passed away that year. In 2023 their mother died. Subsequently, Mukul became an introvert and engaged in his writing for a large part of the time.

According to Rahul, Mukul did not take care of himself, and he missed his daughter so much. The fact that they were alone was not helping them.

Some reports suggested that Mukul was struggling with depression before his death but Rahul rejected those allegations. “The people who are speaking out now weren’t even in touch with him. They say he was unfit, but he ran half-marathons. Yes, he had gained weight — when someone stops caring about themselves, it shows… Who really stayed in touch with him between 2019 and 2024? Did they visit him when he was in the hospital or attend his prayer meet?” Rahul questioned.

Rahul wants people should remember Mukul as a considerate and intelligent individual. He said, “I want to remember Mukul not as the man who faded away, but as the super charming, intelligent, and sensitive person he truly was.”

Mukul Dev died on 23 May in the city of New Delhi. The capital held his last rites. He had featured in entertaining movies such as Son of Sardaar, Yamla Pagla Deewana, R… or Rajkumar, and Jai Ho. In addition, he was seen on television like Gharwali Uparwali, Kasshish, Ssshhhh…, Kumkum – Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan and Phir Koi Hai. The last movie that he acted in is Son of Sardaar 2, which is still to be launched.
