India at this time is seeing a rapid growth in COVID-19 cases across several states, which is mostly driven by the Omicron sub-lineages. While overall numbers are less, still, if we see state by state, the picture will be clearer. Authorities on this note are encouraging more and more caution, especially in overly populated areas.

The State of Kerala is leading with the highest number of active cases at 519, with 3 deaths reported. The state’s Health Minister, Veena George, has said that although the cases are mild the people with serious diseases need to be more cautious, as two diseases at a time can be dangerous. The testing in the state across all districts has been made mandatory, and the health department is tracking the situation closely.

In Maharashtra, 210 active cases have been reported, including 154 new infections. A 78-year-old patient in the Kalyan-Dombivli region died due to COVID-19 during treatment; this was the first death in the state. Health Officials are ready with the proper health facilities.

Delhi, on the other hand, is also seeing a slow but steady rise, with 104 active cases, with 99 new cases in the past week. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assured the public that the health department is fully ready and there is no need to panic. Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh stated, “The situation is not at all alarming. There are no serious cases and no casualties. People are recovering fast.”

Karnataka has till now reported 47 active cases, including 36 new cases. The state’s Medical Education Minister has requested the citizens and schools to remain attentive and careful, especially in Bengaluru. While there are zero cases in some districts like Raichur, they are also prepared if anything happens.

Gujarat has logged 83 active cases, with new Omicron sub-variants such as LF.7 being detected. The state has stepped up properly planned efforts to tackle the situation.

In Uttar Pradesh,15 active cases have been identified. One of them is a suspected COVID-19-related death of a 78-year-old man from Firozabad, who passed away while the treatment was going on in Agra.

West Bengal currently has 12 active cases, with the state working towards increased testing and vaccination drives to control the cases from spreading further.

Tamil Nadu reports 69 active cases and is actively participating in monitoring the variants and cases regularly.

In Punjab, a 25-year-old man from Ferozepur recently tested positive, calling for more caution in the state
