The National Commission For Women (NCW) took a suo motu cognisance of a media report mentioning that a DMK’s youth wing office bearer’s wife claimed that the leader forced girls to  “sleep with politicians.”

NCW Chairperson has written to the DGP of Tamil Nadu

The NCW Chairperson has written to the DGP of Tamil Nadu urging immediate, impartial, and transparent investigation. The letter stressed the need to ensure the survivor’s safety, constitute an independent investigation team, prevent any political interference, and take prompt action under relevant provisions of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The Commission has also sought a detailed Action Taken Report along with a copy of the FIR within three days.

DMK leader’s wife filed a police complaint

According to reports, DMK youth leader Deivaseyal’s 20-year-old wife filed a police complaint while accusing him of sexual abuse. She alleged that he forced other girls to “sleep with politicians.”

The DMK youth wing issued a statement, saying that Deivaseyal had been removed from his post.

AIADMK leader Edappadi Palaniswami lashed out at police

Meanwhile, AIADMK leader Edappadi Palaniswami lashed out at police for reportedly delaying in registering an FIR into the matter. He asked, “Will the dummy government act against the office bearer?”

Palaniswami said the AIADMK leaders and workers will stage a protest if the government fails to act.

A week ago, the DMK party welcomed the Women’s Court verdict in Coimbatore in which all nine accused guilty in the Pollachi sexual assault and rape case were awarded life imprisonment.
