Actress Archana Puran Singh is well known for her great comic timing. She has judged many comedy shows over the years. For quite some time now, she has been appearing on The Kapil Sharma Show as a celebrity guest.

A few years ago, Kapil Sharma made a joke that Archana gets paid just to laugh on the show. The audience liked it, so it turned into a regular joke that’s often repeated on the show.

In a recent interview with The Indian Express, the actress talked about Kapil’s popular joke and said that even she doesn’t clearly know what her role is in the comedy show.

Archana says Kapil’s jokes are just for fun

Archana said, “Now it’s become a joke. Kapil makes jokes about everything, people take it seriously. I don’t because I know the name of the game is make a punch, get a laugh out of it, and move on.”

The 62-year-old actress also shared her thoughts and said, “Yes, I am paid to judge a comedy show, which is what I initially started doing with Comedy Circus. Now, I am paid to not judge Kapil’s show, but to be a celebrity guest. I don’t even know what my role is. Kapil only keeps joking. How am I paid to laugh? In a way, I am paid to enjoy the show, and because my enjoyment is very loud and spontaneous, it translates to I am paid to laugh.”

Archana Puran Singh also said that now her sons, Aryamann and Ayushmaan, have started joking with her the same way Kapil does.

“Then my kids pick up on that and throw similar punches at me. In my vlogs, you see, I am laughing even when I am not paid to do so. It is just a joke. I go along with it because I think it’s very funny,” she said.

Archana recalls her journey with Kapil and upcoming projects

She also talked about her relationship with Kapil and remembered how they first met on Comedy Circus, where Kapil was a contestant like the others.

“Our association started then. Who knew that it would come so far? It was an association built on mutual respect,” Archana said.

On the work front, Archana Puran Singh is getting ready for Rajkummar Rao’s first production,Toaster, which will be released directly on the Netflix OTT platform. She will also appear in The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 3.
