In a message to President Droupadi Murmu, Xi described the relationship as a “Dragon-Elephant tango,” symbolising harmonious coexistence and shared progress.

Xi sent his message to the president when trade tensions around the world were rising, especially as the US imposed tariffs on Chinese goods. He asked both India and China to communicate more, work together on important global issues, and keep peace along their shared Himalayan border, where a military clash in 2020 had caused problems.

According to the government figures, Bilateral trade between the neighbors stood at $101.7 billion in 2023-24, according to India’s trade ministry, with India running a significant deficit.
