Shardul Thakur will reportedly play for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and will replace the injured Mohsin Khan. According to The Times of India, Thakur will sign a contract with the Rishabh Pant-led LSG for the 2025 season. He has been with the squad since the 2025 preparation. The All-rounder was unsold at the mega auction that took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia last year. Although the official announcement is yet to be made, Thakur will be traveling with the squad to Vishakhapatnam for the inaugural match of the season against the Delhi Capitals.

LSG’s Pace Delimma

The Indian speedster suffered an ACL injury which restricted him to feature in any match for there last three months and again suffered a calf strain when he rejoined the squad in the bowling nets. With the Lucknow seamers like Akashdeep and Mayank Yadav recovering at the Centre of Excellence and Avesh Khan still not linking up with the squad after the knee injury, the management of the LSG had to take a call on the injury replacement at the earliest.

“The situation is dynamic for some of our players due to injuries. But it’s time that we look for positives and adopt things to tackle the situation amicably. Some players are at the National Cricket Academy and others are spending time with their physios. Right now, it will not be right to say anything about this. The situation will be dynamic this season,” Zaheer said in a media interaction.

Responsibility on Thakur

In the absence of the main pace attack, Shardul Thakur will lead the pace bowling attack as he is the most experienced bowler int he lineup. Meanwhile Shamar Joseph remains the only overseas pacer in the Lucknow set up with inexperienced players like Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Prince Yadav. The spin department appears settled for now.

Lucknow Super Giants Squad

Rishabh Pant (C), David Miller, Aiden Markram, Himmat Singh, Matthew Breetzke, Aryan Juyal, Nicholas Pooran, Mitchell Marsh, Abdul Samad, Shahbaz Ahamad, Yuvraj Chaudhary, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Arshin Kulkarni, Ayush Badoni, Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, M.
