Transfer News: Wayne Rooney Urges Arsenal To Sign Jean-Philippe Mateta Amid Man United’s Interest

Man United legend Wayne Rooney suggests that Jean-Philippe Mateta should join Arsenal as a result of his outstanding play since Oliver Glasner became Crystal Palace head coach in February 2024. In the continuation of a successful 2023-24 season finish the 27-year-old French player has maintained his solid form by scoring 12 Premier League goals. Multiple reports indicate Arsenal and United will search for a new striker during summer while United specifically names Mateta as an identified acquisition target. Rooney recommends Arsenal acquire him because the German striker brings physical power to Arteta’s system that requires multiple crosses into the penalty area. The BBC Sport heard Rooney explain that Mateta brings a powerful physique to the field while consistently scoring numerous goals.

Rooney Urges Arsenal To Sign Mateta As United Also Show Interest

According to Rooney, Arsenal should acquire Jean-Philippe Mateta because of their current difficulty finishing open scoring opportunities from crosses. In their recent Premier League matches Arsenal has delivered many crosses into the penalty area but lacked a forward player to finish these chances. He expressed his confidence that Mateta would provide help with finishing by talking to BBC Sport. Man United joins Arsenal in searching for a striker after being both connected to Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyökeres. According to Gyökeres his preferred destination is a Champions League-qualified club indicating Mateta would be a suitable target for him. The United scouting team considers Mateta as the perfect choice for Ruben’s attacking lineup because he costs £40 million while remaining within their budgetary limits.

Troy Deeney Questions Mateta’s Suitability For Man United

Troy Deeney from former Watford striker doubts that Jean-Philippe Mateta would be a suitable fit for Man United despite his current strong performance. Deeney told talkSPORT that Mateta would not be a solution for Palace teams so he cannot replace Manchester United’s struggling needs. He questions why Man United would see Mateta as a solution when he did not work for Crystal Palace. Nevertheless he confirmed that Mateta displays great skill but he insisted that standard-height clubs are not automatic indicators for top-tier football success. My performance at Watford established me as an excellent player in that team. Mateta’s success does not translate from his current club level to large professional football teams according to Deeney.
