Apart From Virat Kohli And…, THIS Former Indian Player Played A Pivotal Role In India’s Champions Trophy Victory!

Team India scripted a memorable victory against New Zealand in the final of the Champions Trophy 2025. With this win, India became the only team to win three Champions Trophy titles. Apart from this, the veterans of Team India Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma clinched this title after 12 years of wait and there were speculations that both legends might retire from ODIs but all speculations went in scrap as both neglected these speculations.

With everyone’s contribution, there was a man who also played a crucial role in Team India’s resurgence to come back strong in the ICC tournament and the name is Gautam Gambhir. The former Indian player and the current head coach of the Indian Team played an integral role in in India’s conquest.

Gambhir’s Redemption

The current Indian Head Coach once again demonstrated his sheer new coaching experience which led Team India’s victory in an ICC event. Gambhir was appointed for this role after Rahul Dravid’s successful tenure. Apart from T20Is, Team India struggled in both Tests and ODIs, loosing ODI series loss, loosing 3-0 Test series against New Zealand, and 3-1 loss in BGT 2024-25. These losses created a lot of pressure on Gambhir as well as on Team India.

In the beginning of the Champions Trophy 2025, there were a lot of questions raised on Gambhir and Rohit related to team selection, but things changed and India were unbeaten in the tournament and clinched their 3rd Champions Trophy title.

For now, Gambhir has silenced his doubters but his redemption remains a work in progress – more so in Test cricket, where his coaching has faced the harshest criticism. His strategies and choices during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy raised eyebrows, and he must now recalibrate his approach for the upcoming five-match Test series against England this summer.

This could be a final flourish for legends like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, yet it’s equally pivotal for Gambhir to launch the new World Test Championship cycle on a strong note.
