Actor Shweta Basu Prasad recently grabbed attention after she shared her experience of being bullied on a film set during her acting career. She is known for her roles in several OTT films, including ‘Comedy Couple,’ ‘India Lockdown,’ ‘Serious Men,’ and ‘The Tashkent Files.’

In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, she explained that while working on a Telugu film, she was bullied about her height because her co-actor was taller than her.

Talked About Bullying

Shweta was asked if she had ever been bullied for her looks. She said that she was fortunate to have good genes from her parents, but she did face bullying for something she couldn’t change. She elaborated and said, “There was this one Telugu film I was doing and that entire crew every day would remind me of my height. Because my hero was quite tall, I’m 5’2, and my actor was 5’11 or almost 6 feet tall.”

She pointed out the irony that no one criticized the male lead for his poor Telugu, but she was called out for her height. “He would mess up every scene, give retakes, him being Telugu can’t speak the language. Even I couldn’t but I was managing. And I’m like, you’re telling me about something that I have no control over. It’s something that genetically aya hain (it’s genetic), you manage no. It’s the only set where I was really bullied, very bad.”

Shweta Basu On Workfront

Shweta did not mention the name of her recent Telugu film. However, she has acted in several Telugu movies in the past. She started her career in Telugu with the 2008 film ‘Kotha Bangaru Lokam’ and later appeared in films like ‘Ride’, ‘Kasko’, ‘Kalavar King’, ‘Priyudu’, and ‘Genius’.

Her last Telugu film was ‘Vijeta’, released in 2016. Shweta has also worked in Hindi and Tamil films. Her new Hindi series on JioHotstar called ‘Oops Ab Kya’, will start streaming on February 20. In 2024, she acted in ‘Tribhuvan Mishra: CA Topper’ and ‘Zindaginama’.
