Bullet Train Project: Electrification Work Kicks Off On Mumbai-Ahmedabad Corridor

The bullet train electrification work from Mumbai to Ahmedabad has started as the first two steel masts have been placed on the viaduct. The height of the viaduct is around 14 m from the ground, and it was placed near the Surat-Bilimora bullet train station in Gujarat.

According to an official statement by National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd., over 20,000 masts of a height of 9.5 to 14.5 meters will be erected along the corridor. The masts would support the overhead equipment (OHE) system consisting of overhead wires, earthing systems, fittings, and accessories, thereby reinstating the entire 2×25 kV overhead traction system for the MAHSR corridor on which the Bullet train would operate.

These Overhead Equipment (OHE) system, being in line with Japanese standard designs and specifications, are manufactured in India and will thus support the overhead traction system for high-speed trains, supporting the ‘Make in India’ campaign.

The construction for a 210-meter-long pre-stressed concrete (PSC) bridge, part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project, was completed on January 13 over National Highway-48 at Dabhan village near Nadiad, Kheda district of Gujarat.

The length of the bridge was completed on 9 January, 2025, and the bridge is located between Anand and Ahmedabad Bullet Train stations. The bridge has been constructed using the Balanced Cantilever Method, which is used for larger spans.

It consists of 72 precast segments and four spans of 40 meters + 65 meters + 65 meters + 40 meters configuration. Progress has been made in conjunction with many different aspects of the high-speed rail project. There are 253-kilometers of viaduct work, 290 kilometers of girder casting, and 358 kilometers of pier construction completed.

A total of 13 river bridges and five steel bridges have been completed. Noise barriers have been installed over a length of about 112 kilometers, and the construction of tracks has commenced in several places across Gujarat. Construction of noise barriers over a length of about 112 km has already been done at more than one site in Gujarat.
