Co-Founder and General Secretary of Patanjali Yogpeeth (Trust), Acharya Balkrishna on Saturday graced the World Book Fair organized by the National Book Trust at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Speaking as the chief guest of the event, Balkrishna emphasized the significance of events like the World Book Fair, which provide access to world-class educational literature. He highlighted Patanjali’s contribution in establishing global recognition for Yoga and Ayurveda.

Acharya Balkrishna On Yoga

Acharya Balkrishna spoke about Yoga and expressed his pride in the universal acceptance it has achieved across the world. He said that if people from various linguistic backgrounds around the globe recognize any term, then it is Yoga. Balkrishna added that while they may not fully comprehend its meaning, they are familiar with its association with breathing exercises, physical postures (asanas), and pranayama, regardless of language or cultural barriers.

Balkrishna Calls For Ayurveda’s Global Recognition

When discussing Ayurveda, Acharya Balkrishna pointed out that despite its vast potential, Ayurveda has not received the global recognition it truly deserves. He described Ayurveda as a complete science that stands independently, with no competition from other medical systems. Acharya emphasized that while Allopathy, with its synthetic drugs, is a necessity in modern life, Ayurveda is intrinsically woven into our daily lives. According to him, Ayurveda teaches us to live in harmony with nature, using natural substances and methods that align with the environment around us.

Patanjali’s Contribution To Ayurvedic Literature

Acharya Balkrishna also shared insights into Patanjali’s significant contributions to Ayurvedic literature. He revealed that Patanjali has published the World Herbal Encyclopedia, a monumental work featuring illustrated descriptions of 32,000 medicinal plants. This resource expands on the previously available information, which only covered 12,000 plants. Furthermore, Patanjali has published the Ayurveda-based Soumitrayenidanam, a book that provides a comprehensive guide to emerging diseases and conditions in the modern world, categorizing them according to Ayurvedic principles. This work presents 6,821 verses detailing approximately 500 diseases, including the 471 most common ailments, and describes over 2,500 clinical conditions for the first time in Ayurveda’s tradition.

Concluding his address, Acharya Balkrishna informed about Patanjali’s focus on indigenous products, underlining that Patanjali products are crafted with a strong focus on traditional knowledge and wellness practices. Through these endeavors , Patanjali continues to contribute significantly to the global recognition of Ayurveda and Yoga, offering resources for healing and holistic well-being.

He also outlined Patanjali’s wide-ranging contributions through its initiatives. He shared that Patanjali has made significant strides in various fields such as Yoga, Ayurveda, education, healthcare, research, and the publication of ancient manuscripts. The company has also launched inspiring spiritual books to guide people towards personal growth.

In addition, Acharya Balkrishna mentioned Patanjali’s contribution to India’s education system, revealing that the company has been actively involved in publishing textbooks for classes 1 through 10, aligned with the Indian education board’s curriculum. This initiative seeks to lay the foundation for a robust and indigenous education system in India.

Through these various efforts, Patanjali continues to focus on delivering quality products while enriching the cultural, spiritual, and educational landscape of the nation.
