The Pakistani Army, under the leadership of Muhammad Yunus, is reportedly edging closer to Bangladesh. According to sources, Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has become increasingly active in the region. The ISI is believed to be plotting to destabilise India by establishing a presence at strategic locations within Bangladesh, which could pose a potential threat to India.

ISI is looking to establish at those centres where it can support and train anti-India elements. Recently, Pakistan’s ISI’s chief Lieutenant General Asim Malik had visited Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka.

According to ET, the two nations discussed the possible future presence of ISI at Cox’s Bazar, Ukhiya, Teknaf, Moulvi Bazar, Habiganj and Sherpur. Before creation of Bangladesh in 1971, the Pakistani Army had presence in these strategic locations. Pakistan had backed anti-India elements present in Nagaland and Mizoram.

Recently, senior officials of Pakistan Army and Bangladesh’s Army discussed the expansion of ISI’s network in the country. Indian experts have expressed their concerns over Pakistan Army’s frequent visits.
