Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena, in his Republic Day message, referred to the Delhi Assembly elections and pointed out that attempts have been made at a global level to influence elections through social media and media.”The key to success for democracy lies in good governance…Democracy is the most important fundamental principle of the Constitution. Constitution gives us the freedom to elect government through our votes and decide who we give the power to. For Delhi, this Republic Day is of special importance. A few days from today, we will elect our new government,” LG VK Saxena while extending his Republic Day wishes.
Delhi Assembly elections will take place in a single phase on February 5, and the counting of votes is set for February 8. A total of 699 candidates are competing for the 70 Assembly seats in Delhi.
The Congress, which was in power for 15 consecutive years in Delhi, has suffered setbacks in the last two assembly elections and failed to win any seats. In contrast, AAP dominated the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections, winning 67 and 62 seats, respectively, out of a total of 70 seats, while BJP secured only three and eight seats in these elections.
