India’s first bullet train is being developed with the help of Japan. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor is expected to begin operations in 2026-2027. Japan is set to deliver its latest modernized bullet trains, capable of reaching speeds of 400 kilometers per hour. With such speeds, the distance between New Delhi and Patna could be covered in just two and a half hours.

According to a report published in Mint, the government of Japan has agreed to deliver its latest bullet train, the Shinkansen Alfa-X, also known as the Shinkansen-10. It is expected that the train will be launched simultaneously in Japan and India in 2029-2030.

The report cited sources who revealed that a delegation led by union Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited Japan last year in the months of September and December. Their visit has yielded a positive response and the nation has agreed to deliver the bullet trains.

Earlier, India was supposed to receive Shinkansen-5 as a trial run is being conducted of Shinkansen-10 in Japan. The speed of Shinkansen-5 is 320 kilometres per hour. It is going to happen for the first time when Japan is ready to simultaneously launch its modernised bullet trains within and outside the country.

Shinkansen-10 is a safe and high speed bullet train. The United States and Taiwan are also eyeing Shinkansen-10. It is believed that construction work of tracks will be completed by 2026-2027.
