Kashmir Valley, known for its breathtaking landscapes, is embracing the winter season with a series of vibrant snow festivals aimed at uplifting the spirits of local residents facing hardships due to heavy snowfall and frigid temperatures. The army and local administration have joined forces to organize these events, bringing joy and positivity to the far-flung areas of the region.

The festivities kicked off in the picturesque Lolab and Shopian districts, where hundreds of people of all ages gathered to celebrate winter’s charm. The Lolab Winter Festival, held in the scenic Kariwan area of Devar Lolab in Kupwara district, witnessed an overwhelming turnout, showcasing the rich culture and beauty of the valley. Attendees enjoyed a plethora of activities, including traditional music performances, snow volleyball championships, skiing, dance displays, folk music, local handicrafts, and nature walks.

Local resident Akhtar Ali expressed his joy over the event, stating, “People are very happy. A ray of hope has been kindled, mainly among the youth. Those experiencing anxiety and depression are starting to feel that Lolab is developing in terms of tourism.” The festival not only provided entertainment but also fostered a sense of community and resilience among participants.

Meanwhile, the Heemal Nagrai Winter Carnival at Dubjan Shopian concluded with similar enthusiasm. Over the weekend, locals and tourists flocked to the enchanting venue, exploring attractions along the Mughal Road and participating in various adventure and recreational activities. The carnival featured snow games such as volleyball, hockey, and tug of war, as well as thrilling experiences like zip lining, skiing, snow trekking, ATV rides, snow biking, and horse riding.

Key highlights included guided tours to the Hot Sulphur Springs of Dubjan and exhilarating snow trekking adventures. The event also showcased captivating cultural performances by local artists and exhibitions highlighting Kashmiri and tribal art.
