Ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah once again showcased why he is known to be among India’s top bowlers at the current time. Bumrah picked up 32 wickets from five matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The latter was named as the Player of the Series for his stellar performance and achieved the record of picking up the fastest 200 wickets in Test cricket by an Indian pacer. Bumrah also broke the record of former Indian spinner Bishan Singh Bedi of picking up the most wickets in an away series by an Indian bowler.

Sunil Gavaskar Heaps Praise On Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah also led the Indian team in the first and the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Bumrah showcased brilliant captaincy skills during his stint as the captain of the Indian team in BGT. Indian captain Rohit Sharma stepped out from the IND vs AUS 5th Test due to poor form and there were speculations that he may retire from Test cricket after the Sydney Test. Now, many Indian experts want Bumrah as the next Indian captain. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar heaped praise on Bumrah and stated that he will surely become the next Indian skipper. The former Indian opener added that he leads from the front and has a very good air around him.

He said, “He could be the next man. I think he will be the next man. Because he leads from the front. He has got a very good air about him. The air of a leader. But not somebody who is going to put pressure on you. Sometimes you have captains who put a lot of pressure on you.”

Jasprit Bumrah bowled only ten overs in the IND vs AUS 5th Test after he sustained a back spasm. Bumrah later went for scans and hence didn’t come to bowl in the full match.
