Australia hammered India by 184 runs in the fourth test of the five-match series played at the MCG. Pat Cummins and Co achieved a 2-1 lead in the series with one match to play. The Rohit Sharma lead side could not chase down 340 runs in the fourth innings and got wrapped up for 155 runs. The top batters including- Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and others played a flop show with the bat and could not rise up to the occasion. Only Yashasvi Jaiswal showed some grace and played a knock off 84 runs from 208 balls. However, his dismissal sparked a controversy. Indian fans are trolling umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat for his decision.

Who Is Umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat?

Sharfuddoula Saikat is an ICC elite panel umpire and was included in the list earlier this year. He is the first one from Bangladesh who has been included in the list. He has officiated in 100 ODIs, 73 T20Is, and 23 Test. Apart from these milestones Saikat has been part of 43 women international games.

Summary Of The Innings

Batting first, Australia displayed a solid batting approach wherein Australian batters including Sam Konstas, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschange ended up scoring half centuries. However, Steve Smith had different plans and the latter scored 148 runs with the bat which helped the Aussies put up a first innings score of 474 runs. On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja picked up four wickets apiece for India. Coming out to bat, the Indian team’s top and middle order couldn’t do much and batters such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja got out cheaply. Nitish Kumar Reddy raised to the occasion and ended up scoring an emotional century. Reddy played a knock of 114 runs. In the end, Team India was wrapped up for 369 runs, putting up a decent batting performance.

The Australian batters received a different bowling approach from the Indian team as they were reduced to 91/6 at one stage. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj came up to hunt the Australian batters. However, the lower order along with Marnus Labuschagne showcased a brilliant fight. Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins scored 41 runs each whereas Labuschagne got out for 70 runs from 139 balls. In the end, Australia was wrapped up for 234 runs setting up a target of 340 runs for the Indian team. As always, it was the same old story from the Indian side and they weren’t able to handle the scoreboard pressure and got bundled for 155 runs while chasing down 340 runs.
