The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation’s (IRCTC) website, used for booking online train tickets, was down on Thursday, due to scheduled maintenance. Passengers across the country were experiencing outage, as they were unable to access the IRCTC website or its mobile app. DownDetector, a website that monitors online outages, showed that over 2,500 users have reported the IRCTC website as being down.

IRCTC has acknowledged the disruption. The website was displaying a message stating, “Due to maintenance activity, e-ticketing service will not be available. Please try later.”

This is the second time this month that this portal has experienced an outage, causing worry among frequent users. Let’s find out some alternative methods to book or cancel train tickets when this website is down.

IRCTC Down: Alternative Ways To Book Or Cancel Train Tickets

Book Train Tickets

  • You can download the IRCTC Rail Connect app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store to search and book train tickets.
  • Visit an authorized agent or travel agency nearby and provide your travel details to book tickets.
  • You can visit the nearest railway station’s reservation counter to book tickets in person.
  • You can also book tickets through trusted third-party platforms. However, these third-party platforms are often linked with IRCTC.
  • A person can also book train tickets at select post offices, offering this service.

Cancel Train Tickets

  • You can call 139, the Indian Railways helpline number, to inquire and cancel the train tickets.
  • For cancellation assistance, contact IRCTC at 14646, 08044647999, 08035734999 or email etickets@irctc.co.in.
