Sam Konstas, a 19-year-old Australian batting prodigy, made a striking debut in Test cricket with a composed 60 off 56 balls against India’s formidable pace attack. His effort played a pivotal role in helping Australia achieve a historic milestone on the opening day of the Boxing Day Test. The Baggy Greens amassed 112 runs in the morning session on Day 1 of the fourth Test against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), setting a new record for the highest score in this session during a Boxing Day Test. This performance surpassed the previous record of 111 runs, achieved 17 years ago in 2007, also against India at the MCG.

While Konstas’ impressive debut innings caught the spotlight, he was not the sole architect of this remarkable feat. Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne also played significant roles, joining forces to dismantle India’s pace attack and lay a strong foundation for Australia’s innings. Together, the trio ensured a dominant start for the hosts, thrilling the Melbourne crowd with their aggressive yet calculated approach.

This record-breaking performance underlined Australia’s intent and highlighted the promising future of young talents like Konstas. His confident debut innings against world-class bowlers adds a fresh chapter to the rich legacy of Boxing Day Tests, setting high expectations for his career ahead.
