The International Cricket Council is set to review an on-field confrontation between Virat Kohli and Australian debutant Sam Konstas which occurred on the opening day of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. The incident has gained attention from cricketing authorities and could lead to further disciplinary review.

What Happened Between Virat Kohli & Sam Konstas?

The incident took place when Australia won the toss and decided to bat first and Konstas came in as an aggressive cricketer against Indian pacers. Between the 10th and the 11th over of Australia’s innings, Usman Khawaja was switching ends with Konstas, and just at that moment, Virat Kohli was walking towards their ends. The two seemed to make physical contact on purpose; Kohli, for one, appeared to run his body against the young batter while passing.

Possible Disciplinary Action By ICC

Not much for the ICC, who had observed the incident. According to a senior official in the board, the argument may prove to be disciplinary trouble for the Indian batsman. The board has not released any formal statement yet. The outcome will depend upon the match referee’s and the umpires’ report.

Match Referee Will Take The Final Call

According to a senior source within the ICC, the incident has not gone unnoticed and could lead to disciplinary action against Virat Kohli. “It is now up to the match referee and umpires to review the footage and assess the situation. They may call the players involved for explanations,” the source said according to India Today

“If the explanation provided by Kohli does not satisfy the officials, he could face punishment in the form of demerit points,” the source added.

What Does ICC Rules Say?

“Making inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with another player” constitutes a Level 2 offence. This falls under chapter 42.1 of the MCC laws – Unacceptable Conduct.

The clash between Kohli and Konstas has sparked significant debate across the cricketing world, with fans and experts weighing in on the nature of the confrontation. While some view it as an unfortunate on-field incident, others are questioning the intent behind Kohli’s actions, raising concerns over sportsmanship.
