15 all-out! As hard as it may seem to believe, the Sydney Showground Stadium did see the lowest-ever T20 score in history being registered on Friday (December 16) in a 2022/23 Big Bash League clash between Sydney Thunders and Adelaide Strikers.
After Strikers gave a tricky target of 140 the hosts; the Thunders had a night to forget as they were bowled out for just 15 runs. Yes, you read that right; not a single player but the entire team was bowled out for that score in just 5.5 overs as the Thunders could not even make it past the powerplay in their chase.
The news spread like wildfire on Twitter with cricket fans and players reacting to the extraordinary events in the Australian T20 league. Star England pacer Jofra Archer was among those who took to the micro-blogging site to talk about the game.
It is worth noting that the Thunders are a side with plenty of firepower in their batting unit including the likes of Alex Hales, Riley Rossouw, and Daniel Sams. This is the Thunder’s first loss of the tournament as they won their opening game in a last-ball thriller by 1 wicket.
The Strikers registered a massive victory of 124 runs despite posting a total of just 139 on the board. They have won both games they have played so far in the tournament. Before the Strikers’ annihilation, the Strikers’ beat their city rivals by a huge margin of 51 runs.
Prior to this game, the lowest t20 score record belonged to Turkey, who were bowled out at the score of 21 against Czech Republic in 2019. The record for the lowest-ever BBL record belonged to Melbourne Renegades who were once again for 57 runs against Melbourne Stars. The Renegades were also dismissed for 60 against Hobart Hurricanes in 2020.
