In the latest updates amidst the high-voltage encounter in Kashmir, one unknown terrorist has been killed. One jawan has lost his life in the line of duty while four others including a major are injured in an encounter on Saturday morning in the Kupwara area of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The operation had begun with the anti-terrorist operation in the Kamkari area. Notably, this is the second terrorist encounter within three days in the Kupwara district. A terrorist was neutralized three days ago on July 24 in an operation in the Lolab area where an Indian soldier also fell in the line of duty.
As per sources, 40 to 50 terrorists, well-trained from Pakistan, have infiltrated the Indian territory and are hiding in the upper hills, the sensitive zone of Jammu and Kashmir. They are equipped with the most advanced weapons including M4 Carbine rifles fitted with night-vision devices.
It was reported by the intel sources that around eight terrorists are being hidden in the Kupwara region which stimulated the operation. The security forces could establish contact with hiding terrorists after which a combing and neutralizing initiative was taken during which three soldiers sustained injuries.
The union territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing terrorist attacks after June 4, the day when the Lok Sabha results were declared. For more than a month, the UT has been scarred by such attacks be it on the commoners and pilgrims in Reasi or on the Jammu and Kashmir police and Indian army in Baramulla, Anantnag, Kupwara and other regions of Kashmir.
The Indian army along with the J&K police has been fiercely delving and combing the infiltrators that have come across after advanced training from the terror-endorsing, poverty-stricken Pakistan.
